In a touching act of compassion and social responsibility, the family of Late Mrs. Koku alias Vanita Arvind Umalkar, mother of Mr. Ajay Umalkar, made the noble decision to donate her eyes following her unfortunate demise on 13th March 2026.
Even in a moment of deep personal grief, the Umalkar family chose to transform their loss into a meaningful contribution to society. With the generous intention that others in need may experience the beauty and colors of this world, they consented to donate the eyes of their beloved mother.
The eye donation was facilitated through the eye collection center at Khamgaon, operated jointly by the Municipal Council Khamgaon and the Deesha Education Foundation, Amravati. This eye collection center is affiliated with the Deesha International Eye Bank, Amravati, which works actively to promote eye donation and restore sight to corneal blind patients.
The process of posthumous cornea retrieval was successfully completed by the team including Mr. Swapnil Arun Gawande, Founder Secretary of the Deesha Group, along with Mr. Himanshu Pramod Bund of Deesha International Eye Bank and Mr. Anil Sadashivrao Deshmukh, who carried out the procedure with care and respect.
Eye donation is considered one of the most meaningful humanitarian acts, as it has the power to restore vision to individuals suffering from corneal blindness. Through their thoughtful decision, the Umalkar family has set a powerful example for society, demonstrating that even in moments of sorrow, one can bring hope and light into the lives of others.
The Deesha Education Foundation expressed deep gratitude to the Umalkar family for their generous contribution and appealed to citizens to come forward and pledge their eyes, helping build a future where no one remains blind due to lack of corneal tissue.
