Deesha International Eye Bank and Prayas Amravati
On June 22, 2025, DEF's Deesha International Eye Bank and Prayas Amravati came together to celebrate World Eye Donation Day 2025 with a powerful message: Make eye donation a household movement. The event highlighted the importance of eye donation, recognized the selfless families who donated the eyes of their loved ones, and reaffirmed Deesha's commitment to fighting blindness in India.

Spreading the Light of Vision
The event saw the presence of several esteemed dignitaries, including Mrs. Kamaltai Gavai, mother of Chief Justice of India, Shri Bhushan Gavai, who urged citizens and institutions to support DEESHA Group & Deesha International Eye Banks —a unique initiative led by a dedicated youth team from Amravati. She emphasized the need to make this service accessible nationwide. She praised the effort that began with public support and now serves not only Amravati but also branches in Yavatmal, Buldhana, and more.
Other key guests included Dr. Manish Totey, Medical Director; Dr. Ankit Harwani, Deputy Medical Director; Dr. Meenal Bhonde, President of Asmita Education Society; Dr. Avinash Saoji, Director of Prayas Sevankur; and Mr. Arun Gawande, Founder Trustee of Deesha Group.

Honoring the True Heroes
During the program, 39 eye donor families were honored for their noble act of giving the gift of sight. Additionally, 12 frontline workers who are tirelessly working towards blindness prevention were also recognized for their service.
Dr. Manish Totey and Dr. Ankit Harwani spoke about the critical need for eye donation and applauded the work Deesha Group is doing to raise awareness and facilitate transplants. Dr. Avinash Saoji also shared the inspiring life journey of Mr. Swapnil Arun Gawande, Secretary and Founder of Deesha Group, urging everyone to pursue their missions with similar determination.
Program Highlights
The event was hosted by Mr. Nishant Deshmukh and Mr. Swapnil Gawande, with essential support from Dr. Shraddha Dhakulkar, Ms. Pranali Chambhare, Mr. Himanshu Band, and Mr. Anil Deshmukh.
Why Eye Donation Matters
India is home to a large number of people suffering from corneal blindness. One person’s eye donation can restore sight to two individuals. Common health conditions like high blood pressure, diabetes, or a history of cataract surgery do not prevent a person from becoming an eye donor. Anyone can donate their eyes within 6–8 hours after death.
Steps After a Loved One’s Death:
Close your eyes and place moist cotton pads over them.
Elevate the head with two pillows.
Switch off the ceiling fans but keep the AC running, if available.
Immediately contact Deesha International Eye Bank on 9899898667.

By celebrating this day and recognizing the champions of eye donation, Deesha International Eye Bank continues to fuel a growing movement that brings the gift of sight to those in darkness. Let us all pledge to support this cause and spread the light.
